Title : Pharo : an open-source Smalltalk

Résumé : Smalltalk is a dynamic reflective object-oriented programming language. Based at the beginning on Lisp and Simula, it was one of the first programming language to use a bitmap user-interface and an integrated development environment (IDE). Smalltalk has been a great influence in the development of many programming languages, including Objective-C, Java and Ruby. Many innovations in software engineering in the nineties also come from the Smalltalk community, such as Design Patterns, test-driven approach, agile software development like Extreme Programming (XP) and code refactoring.
Pharo is a new open-source Smalltalk (under a MIT licence). Pharo's objective is to provide a clean, open-source and innovative Smalltalk implementation with suitable for research and business applications. Several companies and universities are using Pharo for their software development.

Title: Integrated tools for computer-aided modeling
Abstract : Agent based simulations are usually built and then used repeating the following tasks : model or parameters modifications, simulation runs and results analysis. Recent simulation platforms offer some tools to ease the task of modeling. But those tools are often insufficient and need a lot of manipulations.
In this seminary, I will present a modeling environment that integrate the simulation cycles in order to make possible simultaneous visualization and manipulation of several modeling cycles, in a perspective of an interactive, iterative and situated modeling.

Title: From the estimation to the prediction of available bandwidth in  IEEE 802.11 based wireless ad hoc networks
Abstract: The wireless ad hoc networks have experienced rapid development during the last time. This technology envisages a high mobility of nodes, a dynamic network topology, a shared communication medium. It is very challenging to provision,  in these conditions a Quality of Service (QoS) which are more and more needed for some recent applications (VoIP, real-time systems, etc..)
The topic of this seminar focuses on methods to obtain information on  available resources at the radio links in IEEE 802.11 based wireless adhoc networks. These informations are necessary to establish QoS mechanisms. The difficulty of this operation is due to the dynamism of the network, the interference effects, the variable load of the network, etc..   Several methods to estimate the available bandwidth of a radio link will be presented  along with their advantages and limitations. The major drawback of estimation methods is that they use the current results for the following period. Very few approaches to predict the available bandwidth is known. We propose a new prediction method based on the approach Improved Available Bandwidth (IAB) which seeks to minimize the error in estimating the available bandwidth and at the same time minimizing the computational complexity.

Title :  The visual representation of words and textual information retrieval by content of images
Resume : We propose an original CBIR system in which the association between textual keywords and visual features is used for image annotation and relevance feedback. In our framework, the state-of-the-art Bag of Words (BoW) model is used. A novel method to link the knowledge with visual content in which external image information (textual keywords) is represented by multiple BoWs is created. Using this method, the system is more flexible with the ability of querying by keywords and the ability of annotating images within the retrieval process. By integrating a novel cluster-based relevance feedback, the retrieval performance is better without requesting more users‘ effort. Moreover, with a long-term relevance feedback strategy, the visual representations of textual keywords are improved. Hence, the retrieval performance is better day by day and the image annotation is also refined.
